Introduction

Irrespective of job roles or even personal lives, everyone eventually has to manage projects in some capacity.

The popular Project Management Foundations in Practice (PMFP) course provides participants with the critical skills needed to manage projects in the workplace and exposes them to a project management learning experience that can be applied seamlessly to a real-life workplace project. It draws on the expertise of a wide range of Project Management practitioners and is based on internationally accepted project management theories, standards, processes, and methodologies.

Who is this course for?

The course is ideal for practitioners who wish to advance their careers in project management and are required to manage projects, or functionaries in project teams. They wish to gain the knowledge, skills, and application experience in managing successful projects. It applies to executives responsible for managing and directing projects in their functional capacity, as well as those who are considering entering Project Management as a career.

Subject to specific requirements, participants will be able to apply for exemption of 15 credits towards the present curriculum of the Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management (NQF 8) offered at Stellenbosch Business School.

Over the course of 7 weeks, you will be equipped to:

  • Describe a real-life example workplace project in the context of your organisational strategy, business case, and stakeholder engagement and communication.
  • Develop a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Statement of Work (SOW) for a workplace project.
  • Construct a Comprehensive Network Diagram and Gantt Chart to reflect and inform the project schedule and critical path of a workplace project.
  • Utilise activity-based costing to develop, direct, and manage the budget and baseline of a workplace project.
  • Report on the execution of a workplace project, with specific focus on variances in project cost and progress.

    Minimum of a matric certificate or equivalent, preferably a post-school qualification.

    A minimum of 3 years work experience, preferably within the project domain.

    Intermediate computer skills, specifically with regards to MS Excel.
  • Admission Requirements
    Ability to learn online and sufficient WIFI or other internet connectivity.
